Montefalco

An easy and enjoyable one hour drive from El Olivar is the ancient Umbrian hill town of Montefalco. Eight saints called Montefalco home, there are churches built 600+ years ago, it has a commanding view of the Umbrian valley and for years it was one of Italy’s best kept secrets. Montefalco is surrounded by vineyards that produce a dark powerful wine from the Sagrantino grape. Long thought to be not as refined and far less elegant than the super Tuscan wines of Italy, the Montefalco Sagrantino has earned a loyal following of wine critics and consumers. Take a day trip, enjoy lunch and sample some of the excellent wines from the charming vineyards in the hills that surround the town.
