Visit the birthplace of Saint Francis of Assisi who was born in Assisi in 1181.
The surrounding countryside seems to preserve and amplify the feeling of being in a spot that is revered by so many, but you don’t have to be a religious pilgrim to enjoy what Assisi has to offer. History also recognizes Assisi as the center of the Italian resistance movement during world war two. Just a 90-minute drive from El Olivar, the Basilica di Francesco is one of Italy’s incredible 55 Unesco World Heritage sites and one of the most visited shrines in the Christian world.
